R.I.P. Rescue Babies
I've got three sets of kittens-1st set of 9 abandoned by my neighbor, 5 (Tristan, Irina, Isolde, Trini, & Houdini) were killed during the breakin last July, the other 4 (Spike, Spider, Gracie & Hopie) are OK; 2nd set of 5 (Ida, Guido, Vinnie, Tito, Iggy) & their mom (Ivette) left on my front porch last month-1 (Iggy) died, mama & one of the other babies (Tito) not looking too good (started Saturday night). - All, but a few special ones come to mind-I was looking thru Craigslist when I found an ad for a deformed kitten. If they couldn't rehome him, they were going to feed him to the boyfriend's snake. I went ballistic, called them & had them meet me for the cat. They brought 2-one went to a friend of mine (Cougar kitty), & I took Gizmo (deformed from the waist down).He was about 3 months old. Took him to the vet & found his deformities were congenital. They gave him a few months to live. That was 3 years ago. He's still going strong-walks on his front legs & tries to make his back legs walk, looking like a seal when he ambulates. He thinks he's just like the other kitties, just smaller. Chichi was abused & paralyzed from the waist down when I found her dragging her little body across the street. She was full of open sores that I treated. She would hold my face between her front paws & rub her little lips across mine. She got baths every day, freq diaper changes, & I would do PT on her. We got her wounds healed when she started passing blood in her urine. After various vet visits, she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She was too advanced for treatment. When it was time to put her to sleep, she held my face weakly between her paws & kissed me like she was saying goodbye. I held her as she went to sleep, looking into her eyes until she wasn't there anymore. She was only about 9 month old when she passed last year. I never knew I could physically hurt so much after her passing. At least I have the 'bridge to look forward to...
