Migdalia (Margie) Mendez said… Hi Paula, just thinking about you and all your fur-babies. I hope you all are doing well. I miss you. Take care and kiss all the babies for me. Have a nice day!

Ann Millikan said… Most of our kitties were NEEDY but Fuchsia was a special needs kitty and we kept her with love and protection for 20 years against all the negative influences of the humans whose suggestions were to put her to sleep. When I get my photos working, you will see what an alert, brilliant, resilient kitty she was and affectionate and clever and sweet as well as sleekly grey and thick medium shiny fur. We adored her....and that is that, everyone outside of our abode was too prim and proper to understand. her existance lives on....my piano students still remember how she adored music and sitting by them at the piano, a special needs kitty....exotic I would say, too SPECIAL for words, love....
Ann Millikan said… Paula, please look up Anne Jean Millikan, Berkeley, CA on internet, and you will see my story written by Madeline Millikan about her journey to the Rainbow Bridge to Cat Heaven and her nine Lives, inspired by our trip to Best Friends Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah, 2000? It is the first entry and is reprinted on my Vol. 2 CD inside cover (of Pet Lover 4 CDs) dedicated to Piano for Pet Lovers, from Bach to Gershwin, "Madeline's Journey to Cat Heaven". She "wrote" this story and it was published at Best Friends before her passing which was 7 years later, age 15. love and purrrs, Ann
Ann Millikan said… Hurray for you Paula, I saw some Special Needs kitties in the slide show and I thought they were precious, beautiful, unique, had character, and I hope people will see those characteristics and selflessly adopt them quickly! I wanted to adopt a blind cat once, and when i was up at Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanabe Utah for which I gave fundraised donation from a Pet Lover CD I produced of tender classical piano music for pets and pet lovers, (went nationwide by fluke) I went into the Special Needs room of many kitties and spent hours there volunteering for two days and loved it on our way to the Grand Canyon, holding up my trip to the Canyon with George because I loved working with the blind, deaf, limping, and various other Special Needs kitties. I just loved it and wanted to take home a silver tabby....I could not adopt the blind black shaggy fur kitty because he was to be with adoption with a Siamese sibling and I already had Madeline at home and they said at the shelter two more would be very stressful on a first kitty of mine. They thought I was adopting the blind kitty just for the Siamese and would dispose the blind one eventually like perhaps other adoptees. No way, I loved them both....I related to the blind one well in my volunteer at this shelter when first starting to know felines, love and strength to this hard and wonderful venture....siga with strength (sontinue on Paula) your friends Ann and VENUS
Ann Millikan said… Awesome, awesome recent photos! Unique and beautiful kitties...prayers all find comfortable homes....VENUS
Migdalia (Margie) Mendez said… Hi Paula, just thinking about you. Hope that you and all the fur-babies are doing well. Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. Love ya!

I would like to Thank Lupe Gore's human mommie a Cat-Share Member. For stepping up and contacting me about the cat(s) I rescue in High Kill Shelter's in California! Lupe's human wanted to give one of the rescued kitty's a new forever loving home. Lupe's human had been following my stories here on Cat-Share. Lupe's human took into her home one of the rescued death row kitty. Shelter name was "IVY" now known as "Caleigh" see photo below of "Caleigh" now in her new forever loving home.
One week later Lupe's human noticed a cat on death row I was trying to save shelter name was "Midnight". Lupe's human wanted to give her a loving forever home if I was able to save her. I was able to save her only minutes before we would of lost her to the kill-list. Now known as "Natalie" See Photo below
When I got to Lupe's human's home to give her Natalie. Lupe's human noticed I had other rescued kitty's in the vehicle. Lupe's human wanted me to bring them into her home so she could see them. The first carrier I open was a cat with the shelter name "Chatty Cathy" Once in Lupe's humans arms held Chatty Cathy that is all it took. They fell in love with each other. Now Chatty Cathy is known as "Katrina" see photo below in her new forever loving home…

As you all know I spend many hours working to save cat(s) off of death row animal shelters in California. Time is never on your side dealing with high kill shelters. I get so many emails from you all. Asking for updates on the special fur-babies on death row. Thank you for your support and concerns. Unless you have stepped into the dark side of the death row high kill shelters. You can't began to understand all the work that goes into saving a life. Sure their is very sad stories. But then their are stories like Ziggy. So many would like to think the life of animals is a perfect picture. But the truth is not all the animals have perfect life's. That is why I have stepped up and spend hours in saving life's.
I would like to share with you a special story about a cat named "Ziggy" Today Saturday 2/18 was a busy day! Meet Ziggy a new member of my family! I rescued him from death row in Lancaster, California. I drove down to Button Willow, California 150 miles Saturday morning and met with a transport team coming in from Los Angeles transporting animals saved from high kill shelters. My little Ziggy was surrendered by his owner on 2/8 because he was old and owner wanted a young kitty! Ziggy is 13! On Monday 2/13 I noticed He was placed on the kill list for 2/18. I knew with Ziggy's age he didn't stand a chance to get out of the shelter alive. The plan truth is older cat(s) don't get adopted in shelters. Every one want to get kitten's. Then when some of them grow up they end up back at a shelter to die. For Ziggy we had to work fast to save his life. I worked with other rescue groups in Los Angeles. To help save Ziggy! What a huge baby so sweet and just a loving kitty. Ziggy and I are both excused from all that went into saving him. Knowing that Ziggy was running out of time at the shelter and with my distance from the shelter. I called Brenda a Los Angeles shelter puller that pulls from other shelters…

Dear All... The sweet-faced, chubby fluffy cat peeking out from under a brown blanket in one photograph, is the same cat that appears on the petition below as a ghastly, putrefying, incredibly heartbreaking, unrecognizable mess :'( That any innocent animal dependent on the compassion of a human being, should not only NOT be shown any compassion, but to be so completely neglected as to have maggots roiling behind his dead left eye--is unspeakably cruel and sadistic; and the person responsible for deliberately letting this beautiful creature rot in agony, must be brought to justice. Over a period of about 6mos, Muffin's 'guardian' was offered help to get treatment for him, which she consistently refused until it was too late, at which time she surrendered him of her own accord. PLEASE SHARE YOUR OUTRAGE BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, AND SHARE WIDELY, PLEASE! The more signatures the better. Many Thanks, on behalf of Muffin♥

CHICAGO -- Police say a South Side man was laughing as they arrested him on animal cruelty charges after witnessing him kick a kitten between 15 and 18 feet into the air, then signal a "field goal" with his arms.
Percy Love, 22, told officers that his cat, Nightmare, who is less than a year old, "is tough, we play like that all the time," according to the Chicago Sun-Times, later adding: "It's just a cat." Officers witnessed the incident at 4:20 p.m. on South Campbell Avenue and immediately took Love into custody.
Officers attended to the kitten at the scene before he was taken to the city's Animal Care and Control agency, where he's being treated for injuries, none of which are life-threatening, the Chicago Tribune reports. Spokeswoman Cherie Travis told the Tribune that the cat is very friendly, and will hopefully be up for adoption soon.
A hearing on Love's animal cruelty charges is scheduled for Feb. 27 in South Misdemeanor Court.

Dear MEOW:
What is the difference between a stray cat and a feral cat? -Samantha
Dear Samantha: A stray cat is a socialized pet that has been living with people, and then be-comes lost or is abandoned by its owners, to live as best it can on the streets. Being born into a family of humans means these cats and kittens have little to no knowledge of how to survive out-side by themselves and many die from starvation, exposure to the elements or of injuries from cars or dogs and coyotes who get hold of them.
A feral cat is a wild cat. Feral cats fear and avoid interaction with humans and live in com-munities throughout Calgary.
Feral cats are the product of irresponsible human behaviour. Un-altered cats are allowed to roam freely and others are callously abandoned when they become inconvenient. The offspring of these cats have little or no human contact. Feral cats are very difficult to socialize and the process can take months to years, and some feral cats will never become socialized. The vast majority (98 per cent) of adopters consider feral background cats unadoptable. Adopters, in general, want to adopt well-socialized domestic cats and kittens.
MEOW Foundation's specific role in the Calgary area is to res-cue both stray and feral cats from the streets of Calgary. Stray cats and kittens who are socialized are given a vet examination, two sets of vaccinations and their spay or neuter surgery, then adopted into permanent homes. Feral cats and kittens are given the same services then returned to a secure outdoor home with a dedicated caregiver.
This program for the ferals is called our Trap Neuter Return program. TNR is an integral element of MEOW's vision for a no-kill Calgary for all cats. TNR will support our community of feral cats and it will play a key role in eliminating euthanasia as a management strategy for feral cats.
If Calgarians support TNR by becoming caregivers in their com-munities, feral cat…

I would like to Thank You all for all your support and helping to keep up my spirit and fight inside of me to try and save life's. Its so hard to walk into a shelter knowing you can't save them all and all the little paws that are reaching out to you wanting to be saved. All the little cry's and meow's and purr's you hear as you walk by a kennel. Seeing the white tag around their necks knowing that is the date they are to die if not saved. I have to focus on the dates they came into this shelter. Knowing they have only a few days of
life left. Then I have to look at the ages for the older one's are most likely to never be adopted and will die at the hands of shelter staff. Then I have to go back and look for all the black cat(s) and Kitten(s) dates. For black cat(s) and kitten(s) don't hardly ever make it out of a shelter. I am pretty weak to my black cat(s) and Kitten(s) I have to way out all the facts and information I have put together on the cat(s) and Kitten(s) Then the hardest part now to have to choose who I can save. After I pull from the shelter and get the cat(s) I have been allowed to pull that day. I just go out to my truck and want to cry for all the little paws reaching out to me that I couldn't save that day. Knowing I can only pull once a week. What will happen to the little faces I couldn't help that day. The drive home from the shelter is a four hour drive for me. I hear all the little voices meowing and crying that I was able to save all the way home. Just keep's me thinking of the ones I left behind. If you have never been…
