Butterfree was a stray we took in before. He wasn't exactly a kitten so we believed he wouldn't be adopted and it seem fated. He beat up on my baby Pikachu though. He's an old boy, 12+ or so. Doesn't move like a kitten anymore. But Butterfree actually changed his playing style so Pikachu had the upper hand. We wanted a playmate for Pika anyway. Now the newest stray and Butterfree are getting along. Gives Butterfree someone younger to chase and beat up (and keeps me up at night lol. I'm not use to young cats either lol even though Pikachu was just like that when he was a kitten). She's not exactly a kitten either but she is pretty. As much as my mom believed we shouldn't keep her, we kind of wanted a girl cat (all sorts of cute pink collars out there).  We do live in an apartment where we are not suppose to have these extra cats but we hope to be moved out in our own house after I finish school in a couple of months. So we are all pretty happy right now. I shall post pics soon!

Occasionally we do get some snowfall but it never seems to last, twice in the last 5 years did we actually get some snow on the ground. We have wonderful hills and mountains and Tassie reminds me of the best of Europe and our high Mount Wellington can be seen from all of our windows and the mountain is often covered in snow in winter and people go up there for some snow action on cold day.

We have really wonderful climate here, because we get lovely summer temperatures sometimes up to 30 and on really hot days we have had 37, and even 40 but luckily that’s rare. Since we are an island we get sea breeze in the afternoons and windy springs, we live all close to beaches and I must say having travelled all over the world that Tassie beaches are the greatest. Long white sand beaches and if you are lucky it is just you and your partner on this stretch of paradise, very clean and green is our Tassie. J

Kind regards

Hi Susanne, yes, we are in our Autumn here in Tassie, usually the best most stable weather and I love Autumn but due to some freak weather pattern, we only had 11 degrees and 1/10 of the anual rain fall in the last 24 hours. Horrible.... :-( But by the weekend we will get back to 21 C, so we will be back to usual weather patterns. Winters are mild compared to Europe, usually between 12 and 14 but on really cold days it can be 8 or so and once or twice a winter we may get a  cold 5.

Eventually had time to get back on here.  Totally amazed that Cathy pays your guinea pigs no attention. Tamara would be besotted with them if her attitude to mice is anything to go by. We also had fish when Tamara was small but they died unfortunately but she couldn't be bothered watching them either.

I found some thing out about Tamara the other day. She used to hate any fishy type of food unless humans prawns or chip shop fish but my husband was away on business and took her a present back of whiskas fishermans choice and she loves it. That put me in my place as I usually gave her fishy cat food away to cats protection. Means a lot less spoon feeding now :-) Cathys human food is also something Tamara enjoys.

You mentioned you liked Stromness when you were up in Orkney. That was where I grew up and would like to stay again but now 7 miles from there. Much better for Tamara as she hates strangers and noise. It is a farm we rent our house on so we have cows almost right outside the house. When Tamara first saw them she was terrified but now she walks among them so they have all grown to accept each other.

The pine chalets I mentioned are up at Lentran, way up a very steep hill almost across the road to Kiltarlity. Very good views and very quiet there. Will be there again in a couple of months and not looking forward to leaving Tamara for 4 nights. My husband will be taking time of work to be home with her but will miss her terribly.

Is Cathy enjoying the warmer weather. I saw the forecast saying it was quite warm down that way.

Tamara has been living quite quietly of late. Only a couple of live voles taken in to us.  I hope to get more photos of her put on here soon but i am not very good with computers so will get my son on to it.

Hope Cathy is well and give her a hug from Tamara and myself.

One of my cats Joker likes to watch tv. His fav shows are cats 101, funniest animals, and his fav movie is the cat sitter movie I picked up for him. It has 16-17 diff scenes of fish and all the natural sounds of the water. I turn it on when I need to get my house work done. It makes it a lot easier for me. One less body attacking the broom or mop. Lol. But he is great and not so great at the same time to watch movies with. He doesn't yack the whole way through like most people do. Thats where he's great. But he is funnier and more interesting to watch than the movie. Thats where he's not so great. One of my fav movies is Twister. With all the tornados and storm chasers. Its pritty good. Its an older movie but it's still good. One of the scenes is with a tornado throwing a bunch of vehicles on top of a building after it has ripped off the roof. Every time the tornado tossed one on top Joker would jump as if he understood what was going on. Just before the scene finished he jumped off of his chair and went under it shaking watching the rest of the movie. I didn't watch much of the movie with him the first time he seen it. My eyes were too busy watching him.

What else does your Cathy like or not so like?

Before Rylie's sudden passing her and Lynx were fully trained for the car and they love car rides. We would pick up the keys and ask do you want to go out. They go running to the doorand wait for us. The second we open the door they go staright for the car and wait by their door. We have seat belt harnesses that we keep in the car at all times. They go to their own belt the second we open the car door.

My cats love the sun. I have a cat run I set up on the nice days for them. I set it near one of the basement windows so they can come and go as they please. I sit near it to make sure nothing happends to them. When its time to come in for something little to eat I just say in and they run inside. They like it when I make salmon steaks. Thats usually when I make them. I make one for them and cut it into 3equal parts so they can have some. My boyfriend keeps a stash of sardines and oysters in the computer room. The cats have full run of the house but when he wants one of his stashes he closes the door. My rule is if ya want to have something like that with them near by ya better be prepared to share. My cats are spoiled. They get their wetffod almost every ngiht. on the nights they don't get it its either sardines or whatever meat we are having. Lynx likes pasta. So he gets some pasta. His favs are spegetti and kd. I give him about a cup of it and he basicly inhales it then comes asking for more. They have a water filtration system. My boyfriend rigged up something for them. We have a bottle of water from wal-mart, he has a tube going from it and into their water so when it gets low and is time to be filled it fills it up on its own. It has a tap so we can turn it off to clean it once a week. They have more toys than they know what to do with. How many other cats do you know that are half this spoiled? Or are better looked after than most people?

Hi Susanne, yes, I am from Berlin, I arrived in Tassie when I was 14 years old and have been back to my old home city twice. Do you miss Germany? How romantic that you left Bonn for your husband :-) I have a dear friend who is a nurse here and she comes from Bonn as well.

I so agree with you I have never met an ugly cat , I do not think there is such a thing. My Step Mum had gorgeous Guineas Pigs and I adored them ( at Wannsee) and I still to this day remember the lovely sound they would make when I visited them and played with them. :-)

All of our indoor babies were trained as young kittens around 12 weeks or even earlier to be put on a lead and harness, at first they may bite the lead and fall down but they generally take well to them especially when it means going outside and playing. Mitzi used to go on long car trips with us and loved it. Vunvee never ever had a problem with it and he started and is still going on the red harness each week outside, Tiega as he is 14 and has a bit more pride now is allowed outside without the harness as he never wanders off far and is so obedient and comes back if he does run further. It is so much fun :-)
