stray kitties

we noticed a few kittens and their momma in the next yard.  they are very scared of people, so we are feeding them and giving them water trying to gain their trust.  we are hoping within the next week or so they will be able to trust us enough so we can take them to my vet.  each year, my vet has kitties available for adoption.  people bring them in...either strays or an unwanted litter and the vet will take them in, care for them and adopt them out.  i want these little ones and their mommy…

Finally...the Notoriety We Cats Deserve

Over the past few years, cats have become an internet sensation, even for people who don't consider themselves cat people. I think there are several reasons for their rise to internet stardom. The first is the internet itself. Prior to the nearly universal accessability of the worldwide web, cats didn't really have a venue to reach a large audience and people who had never had cats or thought they didn't like cats had simply not been around them or had occasion to appreciate their unique…

Update on Kotton

She DOES have Pancreatitis AND IBD.  She is on steroids and reglan.  Some days she feels good and others not so good.  All I can do for  her is Pray and keep her on her novel protein rabbit and peas!

Questioning my vet....

My vet has raised thier rates over 50% in the last two years. They have replace 4of the 5 vets, twice, in the last two years. I have dealt with two of the new vets with Sadie. I was unimpressed. They were gentle with her but I felt like I was in an "assembly line"  I cost me over $600 to have her spayed and have 1 baby tooth pulled. They kept her over night. None of my other cats were kept over night when spayed or neutered.. Now I am seriously concidering changing vets. Am I on the right…

A childhood experience with Sally

When i was eight years old we had a cat called Sally, she was orange and white. One day, i woke up to her crying outside. I was not allowed to open the front door by myself, so i went to the window. I said to Sally "Walk along there, climb up there, walk along there and i will pull you in". Sally did everything that i told her. I really had to lean out of the window to reach her and i managed to get her in without dropping her. She must have really trusted me. When i got her in i got in bed…

Milo Attacks

In honor of Pet Parents Day I thought I would share with you Milo's morning routine.

1) Anywhere from 11:30 p.m.-4:00 a.m. a cup is knocked over into the bathroom sink, or he plays with one of the rugs until one of us wakes up to feed him. This morning the hubby had to! haha ... I guess I'm getting use to it. I never heard him this morning. ;)  ...

2) After his very early breakfast he'll run around and around the living room till he wears down. In the meantime I…

Moving House Cats

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on moving two indoor cats from Colorado to Oregon later this year. We are considering using ground shippers as flying is not an option. Female cat is a good little travler as we brought her to Colorado from the Virgin Islands and she was a real trooper. However, our male cat is quite easily spooked and hates going into his carrier for Vet trips.
Thanks!

Helping Rain lose weight

Our beloved Rain was a little over 14 pounds at her last annual exam.  The doctor said that was about 3 pounds too heavy for a cat her size.

Since we love her, we tried figuring out how to help her lose weight.  Trouble was, she was lethargic and not wanting to play.  We tried the vet recommended weight management cat food and Rain hated it.

So we tried soemthing else.

We've been using a low-carb diet for us, maybe it would work for her too.

We switched…

lizzie...the black cat....

weve known lizzie for about six years...sadley here master, our friend, passed on about a week and a half ago...the day we went to check on her, lizzie was crying at the door like there was something wrong. so, we did a welfare check on diane, and sure enough, diane had passed...we miss lizzie and hope that they took her to the no kill shelter in town...she was the best friendliest cat we knew. besides ours of course...your momma will be waiting for you when you cross that rainbow bridge...

Thurs. 9:18 PDT

In Animal Planets too cute kittens the Birman Kittens were vaccinated in the SCRUFF! THIS IS WRONG! If a cat gets VAS - vaccine associated sarcoma in the scruff it is a death sentence as the surgeon cannot get deep enough to remove all the tumor and the cat soon dies.

Shots - if given at all and most people in the know do not have them given - are to be given in the legs - 1 to a leg as distally as possible as the leg CAN be amputated and the cat will live!

The VAS…

TO ANYONE WHO HAS LOST A PET

I lost my best girl of 14 years (Samantha-rott/lab) last February, then in March I lost my best buddy of 8 years (Simon-orange tabby). I still have days when I miss them both so much; Not only were they my best friends, they also were best friends and I really think sometimes that Simon died of a broken heart. To all of you who have lost your pet, my heart goes out to you and you are not alone in how your feel. I wanted to share the following poem with you.

Just this side of heaven is…

Till We Meet Again; My Sweet, Precious Midnight

On Monday, February 13, 2012 at 5 PM, my precious baby boy, Midnight, was put into his eternal rest. When I left for work that day, he was his normal self and was eating, drinking, and using his litter box just like usual. He was very perky and talkative just like he always was. Little did I know how drastically and tragically things would change just 8 hours later.

When I returned home, Midnight had a massive stroke and blood clots had moved down his body to where the big main artery…
