Litter Box Play & Food Tipping
Milo has this thing where in the morning as I get ready for work he likes to jump into his litter box, sometimes use it, then start playing. Either with the litter (yucky!!) or chase his tail. I always say "No, Milo! Out!, Get out Milo!" and point outwards. As if he knows what I am saying. Although, sometimes he listens, other times he just looks at me like "play with me!" ... I don't know how to keep him from doing this. I tried sprinkling water on him but, you know what ... he kind of…

How to Prepare for Time Away from Your Cat
Before we took our vacation this year, we were very
worried about Rain. She has a routine and she lives with two people who work
from home. She sits in the kitchen and "hellos" if we are distracted
with work or other things.
So, the idea of leaving her home for five days had
us worried sick.
To be honest, it was eye-opening about the type of
people we are. We used to prefer dogs, but our old apartment was close to a
highway and we…

Dinner Time
Last night around 6:30 we were getting ready to sit down and eat supper. We normally eat in front of the tv. I decided to give Milo his canned turkey dinner in the kitchen before I sat down. He immediately started munching away! I then grabbed my plate and headed to living room. I took maybe 2 or 3 bites ... and here comes Milo. Licking and smacking his lips and jumped onto the couch (he's learning to jump now!) :) ... and tapped my arm with his paw. I said "You have your dinner in the…

How to Stop Kitty Wake-up Calls
Cats are by nature crepuscular. It's a word I don't like very much as its sounds creepy, but it means they are most active at dawn and dusk. This could be related to their hunting instincts as many prey animals are also most active at these times.
But what it means to me is that in the summer, Rain wants to be up early -- too early. She has a window seat that gets the morning sun and she usually will lay about on it, absorbing the morning sun until 6 a.m., maybe 6:30 if I'm lucky.…

Update #2 and a ?
Rocket went to the vet and is leukemia-free!! I am super duper relieved! I got all kinds of good things for him today. Although he is free of fleas right now our vet always gives new kittens, on their first visit, free Revolution! This medication is for fleas, heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, and ear mites! Good stuff. Vet also gave us a free bag of Hills Science Diet kitten food, and 2 cans of wet kitten food. He got his first round of vaccines and Dr. Guinan took the time to clean his lil…

The Feral Kitten Once Known as Buddy
This is the kitten that my husband and I rescued last summer from a local BBQ joint where he was begging for food. It was about a 1/4 mile from a major highway and we didn't want him to go splat.
Rain and our landlord are opposed to us having more cats, but we brought Buddy home overnight and…

How to Keep Your Cat Cool in a Heat Wave
Last week, we were away, gone to Seattle for a wedding. Our friend Nick stayed at our house to watch over Rain and make sure she got plenty of exercise and affection while her people were missing in action.
Seattle was gorgeous and had a high temperature of about 75 degress. When we stepped off the plane getting home, the temperature was 99 degrees and the heat index was 115. Yup, southern Illinois is unpleasant in the summer. A writer friend quipped that she was pretty sure Satan had…

Cats and Cancer.
First blog but this is something that came to me last night as I lay there with my head covered in long hair torti, a paw on my neck in our cheek to cheek sleep.
This is Buffey and she has a sister Duffey. She is my profile picture.
After a two year period of extreme stress, resulting from a house robbery, the slaying of my siamese and my Brownie becoming a tripod, I developed a series of malignant skin cancers. I was told that the anxiety would result in cancer and it…

Rainbow Bridge
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and…
