for the love of cats
Over the past few years, cats have become an internet sensation, even for people who don't consider themselves cat people. I think there are several reasons for their rise to internet stardom. The first is the internet itself. Prior to the nearly universal accessability of the worldwide web, cats didn't really have a venue to reach a large audience and people who had never had cats or thought they didn't like cats had simply not been around them or had occasion to appreciate their unique…Continue
I lost my best girl of 14 years (Samantha-rott/lab) last February, then in March I lost my best buddy of 8 years (Simon-orange tabby). I still have days when I miss them both so much; Not only were they my best friends, they also were best friends and I really think sometimes that Simon died of a broken heart. To all of you who have lost your pet, my heart goes out to you and you are not alone in how your feel. I wanted to share the following poem with you.
Just this side of heaven is…Continue

About 4 years ago, a neighbor was raided by Animal Control for cat hourding. They had 36+ cats and they were everywhere! They picked on my cats, in my own yard....well, you know the story. After all the dust settled and the cats were gone, I discovered that one of the kittens they had, escaped the cat police. This little kitty, barely weaned, made a home in the roof of a small pump house on the property we live on. This poor little girl was scared to death!!! No one could come near her…Continue
We had to put our cat Velvet to sleep on Sunday. She got sick about 3 weeks ago and her tests came back normal. They could not do a sonogram or x-ray because she was too sick. Nothing was working. She had likely been sick longer than it appeared since cats tend to hide illness very well and once they start showing signs it's usually too late. I had Velvet for 12 years. I thought I was going to lose her…Continue
i'm hoping somebody can help. boo, my little girl, was spayed this past thursday and i picked her up on friday (yesterday) to bring her home.
she hasn't urinated or had a bowel movement since. i put shredded newspaper in her box and even bought another box and added dust free littler in case she didn't like the paper. i put her near her boxes and she hisses and jumps out and goes to lay down in a chair. i've done some research and it said wait 72 hours. i know it's only been 48…Continue
I am very sensitive to animal cruelty and I thought this was cruel until I saw the show live in Chicago. The cats seemed well and didn't seem to mind. They seemed happy. I mean, as far as I know, an unhappy cat would curl up in a corner and be defensive and wouldn't even think about doing tricks…Continue
One of my new cats Chumlee (previously named at the spca/affectionately called Lil' princess by me), has learned how to play games. She loves to get petted, get picked up and hugged, and even likes to get some kitty kisses from me on her little head. However she doesn't like to have the affection prolonged and it is always on her terms.
So the other day after working a lot of overtime I settled for some rest on the sofa. My cats have free reign of the house with the only things…Continue

Blue’s bowl is filled with fresh beef and chicken liver pate and there are a few tasty dental snacks next to his dish. But, as soon as he hears the rattling of hard biscuits being dropped from a bag into my food dish, he runs over to where our mistress, Lady Hun, is pouring dry food into my dish. She shoos him away so I can eat in peace, since he and I have different diets. He is stubborn to leave so Lady Hun has to keep gently nudging him away…Continue

Milo was neutered back in September 2011. He will be 9 months old January 30th. He is however I think trying to (and excuse me for saying it this way), hump either my leg or arm.
He's not aggressive about it he starts out as play but acts a little odd with little nibble bites and grabbing on. I always put a stop to it and set him on the floor and say no firmly ... then try to distract him with a toy. I don't ever remember my older cat doing this after being neutered. However, that was…Continue
Lazily looking out the frosty bay window this morning, I stretch my furry neck to see whether or not I am dreaming that snowflakes are tumbling from the heavens, cloaking the street in white diamonds. The view is…Continue
Educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering is one solution in the fight against overpopulation and homelessness that cat lovers and advocates support. Due to the fact that most rescue shelters are full to capacity with slow turnover rates, cats denied entry, are often surrendered to kill shelters. On a continuous basis, throughout the nation, abandoned, stray and feral cats are destroyed. Some would argue that euthanasia is an…Continue
Spread the word about the REALITY and then DO SOMETHING to change it! The animals desperately need our help!
You can’t keep your pet? Really?
Our society needs a huge “Wake-up” call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all…a “view from the inside” – if you will.
First off, any of you whom have surrendered a pet to a shelter or humane society should be made to work in the “back” of an animal shelter – for just ONE DAY.
Maybe if you saw…Continue
