Because Milo is a growing boy and works off his food through vigorous play he is now at the point of having 3 pouches of wet food daily along with dry food  and water available at all times should he choose to have dry food. He is now 8 months old so I am also trying to switch him from the dry kitten food formula to the dry adult food formula (which I really don't think it's going to be a problem switching).

My question is, how many times should I give him wet food? I have been noticing recently when I give him a bowl of wet food he at first will try to cover it up but then nibble at it. Am I giving him too much wet food? He LOVES the friskies gravy sensations so of course the gravy is always gone first! ... I have also noticed that he doesn't really drink much of his water. Could it be because of the wet food/gravy?

My husband and I are usually awake at 4:00 every morning. This is when Milo will get his first bowl of wet food. Around 7:30 I will then prepare a second bowl and leave for him to munch on throughout the day while we are at work. Around 6:30 or sometimes 7:00 I will then prepare his third bowl for supper.

As I have mentioned before in a previous blog, Milo likes to eat with us. However, last night he pretty much turned his nose up at his wet food and begged for some of my chicken. I know it's not healthy to give him scraps, but I couldn't deny him of having a bite or two of my chicken. But, after a few bites of my chicken and about a 30 minute to hour nap he slurped up some gravy and munched on a bit of his wet food. Within doing so he tried to cover it up as well. ???

I give him both wet food and dry food due to advice given to me from my vet with one of my cats I had before Milo. She was eating way too much dry food and was having trouble with her bowels. He mentioned that wet food will give her more fiber and help with bowel movements. So, I really want to make sure Milo is healthy and able to poo! ;) ...

Any advice as to what I should do? Should I cut back to maybe 2 pouches of wet food per day?

What kind of dry food do you feed Toby Sandra? I never seen any with cranberries listed before.

I didn't know that dry food could cause urinary tract infections in males.  I've gotten Toby dry cat food with cranberries in it, because I know that at least in humans cranberries are good for the urinary tract.  I wonder if the presence of cranberries in dry food would negate the harmful effects it might have on the urinary tract.  Anyone know?

Is there a vet among us?

Milo isn't really gaining more weight than what is normal for a growing cat. I have however decided to cut him back to two pouches per day. Since he does also have dry food available to him 24/7 as well. This morning right before leaving for work I fed him some wet food (around 7:30 this morning). I will give him his second bowl of wet food this evening when we have supper, since he likes to eat with us ;) ... Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think I will try a little extra water in his food tonight Sharon.

Because Milo is a boy, I wouldn't give him any dry food.  Males are prone to Urinary Disease, which can be pretty much prevented by not feeding dry food and making sure he gets water.  I feed my cats wet canned food, and add water to it, especially the males.  I had two males with  Urinary Disease, and the prescription food (dry) didn't help.  Now feeding this way, neither boy is having any more problems.  I wouldn't let him have more than one can of wet food per day.  I'm not sure how much a pouch is equal to.  Also, I would add water to that pouch food, because the water content of that isn't equal to canned food.  Hope this helps.

There are twelve of us indoors, and we all seem to eat differently.  Some, including me, like moist food (either Whiskas in a pouch or canned Friskies, shredded or bits) and we all eat dry food.  Our dry food bowls are full 24/7.  Our human gives us the moist food twice a day, for breakfast and dinner since five days a week she's at work during the day.  We also had turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas!!

And btw, I give my cat half a can of wet food twice a day - morning and evening - and leave dry food out for him to munch on if he gets hungry.  He has plenty of energy and seems to be healthy.  Once in a great, great while I'll give him a treat of human food - tuna, chicken with nothing on it, or like on Thanksgiving, turkey.  But it's a rare thing - don't want him to get used to it and start refusing his cat food, which has all the nutrients in it that cats need to stay healthy.

I have a couple of thoughts on this: is Milo gaining weight or maintaining it?  If he isn't gaining more weight than is normal for a growing cat, you might want to cut back on the food.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I'd run this by your vet and see what he says.  Since you apparently have a relationship with a vet (good for you!), use that when you have questions like this... and hopefully they will answer you over the phone without having to come in for an office visit, especially if you've been there recently.
