Well, I took Milo to the vet's Saturday for his yearly shots. It literally scared the crap right out of him. :( Broke my heart. Very disappointed in my vet. She claimed she cleaned him up real good but, that wasn't the case. I was very upset with this. Milo was so scared he growled and tried to attack even me! Once I got him home I tried my best to bathe him myself but, had to yell at the hubby to come help. Poor baby had poo starting to matte in his tail. I had to get him cleaned up. He was not a happy camper at all Saturday! ... He ended up vomiting 3 times after that. Not sure if that had to do with his shots or just being way too stressed with his vet visit, car ride, and a bath. So, while I was bathing him I promised him that he NEVER EVER, EVER has to go back to the vet again! Good news though, he is in a good clean bill of health! ... Just wish he wasn't so mad at me Saturday and Sunday. I am however glad he was starting to purr again and wanting to play with me this morning. :) ... Fingers crossed for a good evening later.
A friend of mine suggested sedation before taking him to the vet again. I don't know if I want to do that. Has anyone ever had to do this? ... I know he really does need to keep up to date on his shots. But, I hate to see him so scared like that.
Milo has also been having an odd reaction to the flea medication Revolution. So, the vet is going to see how the medication Advantage works for him. He doesn't have fleas so, I don't think I will worry about that right now. Does anyone know of any home remedies that are not harmful for flea protection?

Comment by Meeku on July 10, 2012 at 7:55pm For high anxiety/stress cats all of the things that he was subjected to that day are nerve igniting experiences... Its awful to see your good friend struggle with these necessary routine checkups.
Maybe you should look into trying a distress remedy for your cat, I've never used it but it sounds pleasant. Also if your cat likes catnip, maybe that could help ease some tension while in the doctors office?
I have to cover my cat's carrier while i transport him in the car because he howls and cries the whole way if i don't. I guess its too much stimulation for him to leave the house and see all of the other cars cruising past us.
For the fleas...
I've heard that brewers yeast can be used to repel them, you can either feed them a small amount for several weeks or apply it externally on their coats as flea powder.

Just be sure to avoid using too much because some animals could have an allergic reaction to it. (Test a small amount on them if you are unsure.)
Comment by Sarah Lewis on July 10, 2012 at 9:06am I know, Donna. The only thing I can think of is sedating him before taking him again. I really don't want to have to do that. But, I don't see that I have any other choice right now. He gets so scared and so aggressive he even tries to attack me while we are there. He will go back to the vet ... he has to stay up to date on his shots, I know. I just promised him he didn't have to. I guess I was just trying to soothe and comfort him.
Unfortunately it is not uncommon for cats to have mishaps at the vets....I just took Tootsie last week and sure enough she did as well...but she had a UTI and needed to go....Teddy pees on himself when he has to go as well........but I have lost cats to illnesses that could have been prevented by getting shots...( which they didn't get before we rescued them ) so I make sure we cover our basics.....they usually love me again in no time flat.....guess that is one reason I think they are all so special.....like children who cry when they have to go to the Doctors....they act out the only way they can.....God Love them all
Comment by Sarah Lewis on June 19, 2012 at 12:01pm I will search and see if I can find the Back Flower Rescue Remedy, Debbie. Thank you! ... Jan, my vet is wanting me to try the advantage I'm just still a little leary of it. Someone also mentioned to me about the DE but, I had checked with our County Agricultural Agent and from what he had said is that DE has not shown proven fact of helping pets rid of fleas. So, as of right now since he does not have fleas anyway ... he's going unprotected.
Try the advantage for flea protection on Milo. I use it for my fur babies once per month and it works well for them and keeps the fleas away fairly well.
Comment by Debbie Smith on June 14, 2012 at 4:29pm Hi Sarah. Sorry to hear that Milo had a bad experience at the vets. Next time you take him, try Bach Flower Rescue Remedy, it helps with stressful situations. The vets where i take Lester stock it. Your should be able to get it from a health food store or holistic medicine shop.
