We had to put our cat Velvet to sleep on Sunday. She got sick about 3 weeks ago and her tests came back normal. They could not do a sonogram or x-ray because she was too sick. Nothing was working. She had likely been sick longer than it appeared since cats tend to hide illness very well and once they start showing signs it's usually too late. I had Velvet for 12 years. I thought I was going to lose her at 8 years when she had Triaditis. She overcame that to live another 4 years. Over the past year we have lost 4 rats, - the last two died in the past 3 months, we gained a lab puppy - turned one in October, and we are left with our lab Spirit, 1 yo, and Bandit, our remaining cat who will be 12 in March. Velvet was siamese and Bandit is a siamese as well- not related. Velvet was the queen of the house. My mom always called her the princess. She is missed. But, no longer suffering.
Velvet was a fighter...she was the one who looked out for Bandit if he felt threatened. If you were sick, she would lie with you all day. She always slept by my head...as a kitten she slept on my neck. Purred in my ears...She had her moods as well. ;) And she was very smart.

I know how you are feeling. Losing a fur-baby is so hard to go through. May Velvet Rest in Peace and I hope you are okay also. Take care.
Comment by Avo Love on February 13, 2012 at 10:32pm I am so sorry for your loss. Having recently lost a beloved furry child, I feel your pain.
Comment by Elisa Loves Summer on February 13, 2012 at 8:38pm Thanks gals! I know you all can appreciate the loss. It's just so amazing how empty the house seems without her. But, it was her time. I am thankful for the 12 years I had with her and the joy she brought into my life and to many others lives. Bandit, my surviving kitty is much more clingy now. He is practically glued to my fiance now.
I am sorry for your loss of Velvet. May her spirit be with you.
Comment by Noreen Gaudet on February 11, 2012 at 9:53am So sorry for your loss. It's hard losing a member of your family. At least she knows she was loved........
Comment by Nettie Brodsky on February 10, 2012 at 9:36pm I'm sorry for your lose. My cat Wilson sleeps with me and he insists I wrap my arms around him so he can snuggle. My cat Max is the same way. I had to put down four cats in my time and my heart broke every time. It took me weeks to stop crying. I think of them often and miss them. They each had their own special personality that I miss.
Comment by Ann Millikan on February 10, 2012 at 4:30pm Madeline, my first kitty, also used to sleep on me like Velvet, she would sleep above my head, wrap herself around my neck like a furry scarf stole at breakfast time, sleep on my face, passed away five years ago at age 15 years, a maine coon/tabby rescue from euthanization, I miss her terribly. Velvet brought back these beautiful and tender affectionate memories so unique to me, love and purrs to you always Elisa and your wonderful family, and to the journey of Velvet over the kitty Rainbow Bridge, Ann
